Program Description

Event Details

Translators is an impactful short film that spotlights the responsibility, dedication, and work done by bilingual children who act as their parent’s translators. Directed by Emmy-award winning filmmaker Rudy Valdez, we follow the stories of three immigrant children, ages 11, 13, and 16, who assist their parents with complex adult conversations and decisions.

Following the film, we will hear from a panel of community members who have taken on a translator role in their family to share their story. Join us to engage in a discussion about the role of translators and the importance of eliminating barriers for non-English speaking adults.

This event will be hosted by the Winnebago Area Literacy Council and UWO Chicana/o & Latinx Studies.

Please let me know what other event details I can provide and what our next steps are.
